Kesha does not like Katy Perry. The former took a shot at the latter after she traveled into space with Blue Origin on Monday.
Her (not so) subtle troll is in direct response to a nasty post from Wendy’s, the fast food chain, in correspondance with the ongoing controversy surrounding one of her former producers.
There is a lot to unpack here, so let’s start at the beginning. Kesha first sued music producer Dr. Luke in 2014 for infliction of emotional distress, sex-based hate crimes and employment discrimination. They went back and forth in court for almost a decade. Kesha alleged “sexual, physical, verbal and emotional abuse” and claimed that he drugged and raped her on two separate occasions, made threats against her and her family, and called her derogatory names. Dr. Luke claims she and her mother made “defamatory statements in her attempt to extort him into releasing her from her exclusive recording agreement.”
Full details of the intense legal battle can be found here. They reached a settlement in 2023.
Kesha no longer works with Dr. Luke, obviously, but Katy Perry continued to work with Dr. Luke after the lawsuit. That did not go over well with Kesha.
Perry publicly stated that she still loves Kesha and considers her to be a friend. However, she also defended her collaboration with Dr. Luke. They have worked together for years.
I understand that [working with him] started a lot of conversations, and he was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with. But the reality is, it comes from me. The truth is, I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis, and he was one of the people to help facilitate all that. One of the writers, one of the producers. I am speaking from my own experience.

Kesha is not interested in what Perry has to day. That relationship is severed.
She made her opinion on Perry clear when she tweeted ‘LOL’ in response to a post about Perry’s new song and album ‘Woman’s World.’ Kesha doubled down on Monday. The beef is still very real.
Perry was one of six female “astronauts” to travel approximately 62 miles above the surface of earth, beyond the internationally recognized boundary ofouter space. It was part of a highly-publicized (and perhaps over-dramatized) trip with Blue Origin.
Upon her return, Wendy’s asked if it was possible to send Katy Perry back. The post, while fairly on-brand for the company’s intentionally inflammatory (and very entertaining) social media strategy, was a low blow.
Can we send her back

Kesha loved it. She hopped in her car and drove to the nearest Wendy’s.

There is a very slim chance that this post was a coincidence. I won’t rule it out, but let’s be real. Kesha was directly implying her desire for Katy Perry to be relegated to outer space. Shots fired.
The beef between the two iconic pop stars continues to exist. This latest escalation is perhaps the most vicious direct shot fired from one at the other. Perry tries to remain mostly cordial. Kesha doesn’t care.
